Today my Nana got a phone call. She was told to go in to the Drs for her yearly check up. She had already been to see the Sister on Monday so was a little confused but went in anyway.
Once she got there, she was told she had to see the Nurse before going in to see the Dr. This doesn’t usually happen but again, she went along with it anyway. She went in to see the Dr half an hour later, after a brief chat with the nurse and it was there, in his dark, cold office that he told her she has kidney failure. A consultant at the hospital had picked up on it after noticing that her legs were extremely swollen. This was after she was given her 3rd blood transfusion so she wasn’t really there about the pain in her legs, she just thought it was part of getting older.
My Nana has been through so much - 6 heart attacks, countless strokes, blood transfusions, the list is endless. She’s practically been my mum, she’s had me since I was born and I don’t know what I’ll do if something happens to her. She’s usually so strong but she’s gone quiet. She said she knows she’ll be okay and I’d believe her if she wasn’t whispering it through tears. 
I know that sometimes medication or treatment can help, and we’re hoping they’ve caught it in time but it’s medication that has done this to her. The Dr said she’s been on a cocktail of tablets for so long that her kidneys have “basically decided they’ve had enough, they’ve packed up and went on strike”

I love her so much. She’s fought so many illnesses and awful things in her life, I just hope she can find the strength to fight through this.
